Mr & Mrs Cater
Posted on 10 February 2018
Yesterday morning we ventured over to the Cartshed Lodge armed with strong coffee, orange juice and warm pastries to fuel the bride and her girls for the big day ahead.
The groom arrived right on time to welcome his guests, delivered in Minty the camper van from Vintage Camper Hire, arranged as a surprise by his wife-to-be. There was a lot of hustle and bustle as the beautiful bridesmaids all put on their lovely dresses and prepared page boy Ferren, flower girls Amelia and Imogen and our stunning bride Penny to make their way over to the ceremony. With everyone dressed and ready to go, there was just time for Baxter the dog to fix his bow tie before walking his mum down the aisle.
Penny’s fabulous bouquet was made up of crystal and pearl brooches and had special keepsakes as a lovely way to keep those who were a very important part of her life but were unable to be present with her on this special day.
Penny and Baxter made their way down the aisle to live piano music and Mum was waiting ready to give Penny away to her husband-to-be. Gorgeous Summer did a wonderful job of passing over the rings at the right time so that Penny and James could officially become Mr and Mrs Cater.
With the ceremony complete and a drizzly day outside, guests were invited to enjoy celebratory drinks while photographs were taken in the barn.
Guests noticed a little influence from James as they consulted the seating plan with tables named after Batman characters – another of James’s great loves! Tables were decorated with fairy light centrepieces and guests each had a wine glass charm as a favour.
Photographs of the bride and groom’s parents were placed on the gift table with a third frame ready and waiting for the newest married couple to fill it – a beautiful symbol of the importance of marriage to this couple.
With guests seated, our bride and groom made quite an entrance to their wedding breakfast with music playing and a round of applause to raise the roof.
Following grace given by James’s mum Julie, the wedding breakfast was served. A starter of either Cromer crab cakes or goats cheese and caramelised onion tart was followed by herb crusted salmon or roasted chicken supreme and there was chocolate and salted caramel tart or Eton mess for dessert.
Penny and James were true to form with slightly unconventional speeches which of course involved a round of black sambuca shots! Father of the groom was first to speak followed by our groom, who had the room in stiches before his best man broke out of his ‘nice guy’ Guise to give James a real roasting!! Doing it for the girls, bridesmaid Fran was next to say a few words, followed by the bride herself. Saving the best for last, bridesmaid Summer had written a lovely poem for her new step dad James which she shared with the room.
With the speeches over, our couple welcomed further friends and family to help them celebrate into the night. It was lovely to see some familiar faces return to us throughout the day and to share memories of previous special occasions and look forward to future ones celebrated at Southwood Hall!
Following the cutting of the cake the ever-popular Southwood sweetie table was on offer alongside bacon rolls and delicious hot doughnuts as guests awaited the romantic first dance.
There were emergency flip flops available for those who needed a little help onto the dancefloor and Vintage Camper Hire returned in the evening with their photo booth for guests to enjoy as they partied the night away.
Our very own Batman and Wonder Woman – Penny and James, we wish you every happiness together x x
