Lisa & Darren's big day was finally here!

Posted on 12 January 2019

After meeting when playing online Yahtzee in 2016 our Bride from Wales, and our Groom from Norfolk finally got married with us yesterday amongst all of their nearest and dearest, and as expected the day was full of fun and laughter!

With over a year’s worth of planning behind the big day, our Bride and Groom were super excited to head over to add their own special touches to the barn before heading into Southwood House and the Cartshed Lodge for an evening full of preparations with their closest family and friends. From the cries of laughter we heard from across the car park it sounded like it was definitely a night of fun (and plenty of Champagne ??).

Once the finishing touches were put into place by Darren on the morning of the wedding, the barn came alive with the buzz of their excited guests as they awaited the all-important ceremony, and the arrival of our gorgeous Bride.

Darren’s daughter Evie was first down the aisle shortly followed by Lisa’s daughter Paige with Poppy. As the girls made their way down the aisle, Lisa and her Son enjoyed a special moment together singing all of the words to a beautiful track from ‘The Greatest Showman’ – our Bride and Groom’s favourite film! Ethan had the very important job of walking his Mum down the aisle and all of the practising certainly paid off as he absolutely nailed it! The ceremony was so heartfelt and full of love – even the Registrar’s commented that there wasn’t a dry eye in the house (including us!!).

With the ceremony complete guests braved the chill in the air and created the perfect confetti tunnel for our newlyweds down the rear steps before treating themselves to a cocktail from our Southwood Styled Kilner bar and heading back into the warmth of the barn. Chef provided some tasty snacks on our static canape ladders including tequila-soaked watermelon – our Bride’s favourite!!

It was such a pleasure to welcome Rich and Ellie from VT Films back to Southwood and as guests mingled in the barn, they whisked Darren and Lisa away for some video time in the grounds. Rich and Ellie actually filmed Darren’s ‘Love Actually’ style engagement video so it was only right that they were here to help capture their big day!

It was soon time for guests to find their way to their seats with the help of Darren’s homemade table plan and without further ado Darren’s Best Man welcomed the new Mr & Mrs Howe into the dining room. After getting to know Lisa and Darren over the last year we knew that it wouldn’t be a subtle entrance for these two party lovers, so with the music cranked up to full volume, our Bride and Groom danced their way into the barn and had a little rave from behind the top table with all their guests fully involved!

After guests enjoyed a hearty three course dinner, glasses were charged with Chambord Prosecco and fresh raspberries, and it was time for the speeches to commence.

Darren was up first with an emotional, heartfelt speech and as Darren likes to say… you either ‘go big or go home’ – we knew his speech was going to be an absolute belter! Telling everyone the story of how he and Lisa have gone from meeting Lisa (in the very non-conventional way of playing online Yahtzee ??) up until the present day of them living together with their three gorgeous children (and how 5 become 1 ??). Of course, we had to show his amazing proposal video on the big screen too for everyone to see ??.

Darren’s Best Man had many funny stories to share including one rather embarrassing moment at work many years ago and explaining that there is a reason why all the boys call Darren ‘Harry’ – it’s not completely random after all ??.

Lisa and Darren both LOVE cheese so rather than opting for a traditional wedding cake they opted for our savoury cheese tower complete with a top tier shaped like a love heart – how sweet! After they had posed for a few photographs and guests had began to dive in an enjoy the cheese, biscuits and chutneys it was soon time for them to make their way over to the dance floor for their first dance.

‘Say you don’t let go’ is a song that has a special place in our couples’ hearts (and is the track that was featured in Darren’s proposal video) so it would only be right for it to also be their first dance together as man and wife!
It didn’t take long for all of their friends and family to join them on the dance floor and kick off a night of partying in style!

The beautiful day was then wrapped up with the same song that our Bride walked down the aisle to. The new happy couple shared an emotional last dance that ended the night perfectly before saying a final thank you and goodbye to their guests.

We have had the BEST time getting to know you both and will miss you dearly. We wish you the happiest future together Mr and Mrs Howe (with Ethan, Paige and Evie too of course ??) xxx
