Fun at the fete

Posted on 20 March 2016

A day of wonderful old and new traditions filled Coronation Barn and the grounds for yesterday’s wedding.

After a beautiful church ceremony at Freethorpe, guests were ferried by coach to Southwood Hall and were greeted with a drink and score card. Awaiting them on the terrace and rear lawns were a section of fete games for Andrea and Andrzej’s nearest and dearest to compete over in the hope of being crowned fete champion!! Not letting a bit of drizzle stop them we saw ducks being hooked, cans being bowled over and even a homemade kerplunk! Amazing!!

Our lovely couple soon joined their loved ones for canapes and a few photos in the gardens and not forgetting getting involved in the fete game competition.

Inside the barn guests were invited to have their photo taken and become Bride & Groom for the day thanks to the couple’s amazing cut out photo board! The tables were beautifully decorated with touches of red and write and the centre pieces had been lovingly arranged by mother of the Bride, Lynda and her friends. Each guest was also treated with a delicate hand painted egg for them to take home – a Polish tradition at Easter time.

As guests took their seats for dining with the help of the couple’s personalised pin board table plan, we welcomed in the Bride and Groom to rapturous applause and Andrzej’s parents welcomed them with bread and salt – another lovely Polish tradition for us to witness.

Our first barbecue of the year was the wedding breakfast of choice for Andrea and Andrzej and was certainly a hit with guests who enjoyed a delicious choice of smoky BBQ pork belly rib slices and butterfly thyme chicken with a selection of yummy salads piled high. This was followed perfectly by our seasonal berry Pavlova and a glass of raspberry prosecco in anticipation of the speeches.

Some heart-warming speeches were given by mother of the bride, maid of honour, best man and the happy couple as well as a few prizes for the fete winners!!

Breaking with tradition, we didn’t cut the cake and serve it on platters for guests to help themselves with...no instead we hit the cake and smashed it to pieces! We had a wedding cake piñata!!

With a best friend and maid of honour as a DJ and singer, Andrea was very lucky to have her music for the day sorted! A wonderful acoustic set followed our couple’s first dance as Mr & Mrs Lakomy! Fish and chip cones, fresh hot doughnuts and caramel popcorn kept guests partying the night away on the dance floor.

Congratulations Andrea and Andrzej, it has been so lovely to get to know you both and be able to bring your vision to life. We wish you every happiness for your future and journey together xx
